FAREWELL, 2018 // a reflection

In this year, I will turn twenty.

I will finish my first year of college and begin my second. Hopefully by then–more specifically by the end of the year–I will have somewhat of a solidified sense of who I am and what I am doing with my time. Since graduating high school last June, I have been in a bit of a daze with this whole growing up and entering the real world thing.

2018 was a whirlwind.

January was crowded with acceptance letters from colleges. I travelled to France in April, my first international trip. In the spring I decided on my college and graduated high school with a group of friends who I know I will have for my entire life. I spent the summer singing the soundtrack to Mamma Mia 2 with my two closest friends out of car windows and around a kitchen table. In the fall, I moved to New York for college, completed my first semester, and now I'm back home, reflecting on this rollercoaster of a year.

Of course, it wasn't all happy and light; this was the hardest year of my life. But it was because of all the challenges that I learned a lot about growing up and being independent. I had to go out of my comfort zone in order to grow into the person I am at the present moment, someone I am immensely proud of.

I made a promise to myself shortly after returning to the quiet, comforting streets of home. I wrote it in my phone one morning and thought about it for the rest of the day, and I want to share it with you:

I want to spend 2019 using everything I learned to grow and make a major advancement in my dreams and goals.

As this year comes to a close and we start entering the next, I, like many other people, begin to reflect upon the concluding year and think of ways to make this new year the year. Usually, I follow in part with writing a decent list of habits and ideas I wish to change, implement, and complete. I pursue them in January only to have forgotten about them or given up by April.

But this year is going to be different.

There's more to creating a successful year than making lists of things to "fix". I've done a lot of reading and research throughout this past week that I've been home to assure I will be able to successfully complete everything I want to achieve in 2019 and I want to share it with you.

Detox & Reset is a series of blog posts filled with tips and exercises to make 2019, or any new year, a success with four steps, one for each week of January. These are things that I am implementing this year to truly begin advancing in my career and investing in myself. This is the year to grow as a person and learn more about yourself; to begin living with intention, get rid of the clutter,  your doubts, and get clear on what you want and start making your dreams a reality.

I hope you'll join me to invest in yourself and make 2019 a transformational year. To receive notifications when I post and support my blog, subscribe to my email list. I have a lot of exciting projects planned for the new year I look forward to sharing with you.

Until next week...

take care,
rachel xoxo
